Restorative Dentistry
We focus on not only restoring the form and function of your teeth, but also ensuring that the restoration is biocompatible.
Restorative Dentistry Services:
When a tooth is deeply decayed or damaged, we offer a range of restorative options, including fillings, inlays, onlays, and crowns.
Biocompatibility First:
We understand that not all dental materials are created equal. There are thousands of different materials and techniques available, but our primary concern is your overall well-being. Keeping your whole body’s health in mind, we exclusively use biocompatible materials to restore your teeth.
Fluoride-Free, BPA-Free Composites:
Our tooth-colored fillings are made from fluoride-free and BPA-free composites. These materials have been proven safe for the vast majority of people, ensuring your dental work promotes your overall health.
Metal-Free Solutions:
At HDW of Carmel, we do not use “silver” mercury amalgam fillings or any other metal-based dental work. We believe in providing restorative dentistry that aligns with your holistic health goals.
Choose HDW of Carmel for a holistic approach to restorative dentistry that not only restores your teeth but also prioritizes your overall well-being.
Composite Tooth Colored Fillings
Crafting durable tooth-colored fillings necessitates a meticulous approach and advanced techniques. HDW of Carmel possesses both the skill and precision required for this task. We employ a high-speed, air-driven Kavo handpiece to eliminate the deteriorated tooth structure and harmful bacteria while utilizing magnifying scopes that enhance our vision by 4.5 times. To ensure thorough cavity removal, even in concealed or imperceptible areas, a pink caries (decay) indicator is employed.
Throughout the procedure, the tooth is carefully isolated to maintain a dry environment, a critical factor for the long-term success of the restoration. Once the tooth is fully prepared, a precise concentration of ozone gas is administered for 45 to 60 seconds to eliminate any remaining harmful bacteria. This step not only enhances the bonding strength but also prolongs the lifespan of the filling(s).
The most commonly used composite resins in our practice are Filtek Ultra (for filling the tooth's side walls) and Tokyama Omnichroma (when natural tooth surrounds all sides). However, the choice of resin may vary depending on the patient's specific requirements and the results of biocompatibility testing.
Regardless of the resin selected, it is meticulously applied in layers to restore the tooth. This layering process minimizes stress from polymerization shrinkage, which occurs when the composite contracts away from the tooth's sides during the hardening process under a specialized, focused light. At HDW of Carmel, we take great care in shaping and sculpting the filling to replicate the tooth's natural, pre-diseased structure, because excellence is truly found in these finer details.
Full Coverage Ceramic Restorations
When a situation arises where it becomes necessary to remove a significant amount of upper tooth structure to maintain structural health or address deep cracks penetrating the tooth, a full coverage restoration is the recommended solution. This restoration spans the entire top surface of the tooth, effectively safeguarding it from forces that could potentially split the tooth.
At HDW of Carmel, we strive to minimize the use of crowns due to the potential for inflammatory responses. Instead, we prefer the use of onlays, which allow us to keep artificial materials as far from the gum tissue as possible, ensuring a more favorable gingival response.
These full-coverage restorations are typically crafted from materials such as zirconia or lithium disilicate, chosen based on considerations of biocompatibility, retention, and aesthetic requirements.
The process of obtaining a full coverage restoration typically involves two appointments. During the initial visit, HDW of Carmel will prepare the tooth and place a temporary restoration. Digital impressions will also be taken and sent to our specialized dental lab, where your customized restoration will be meticulously crafted. The second appointment scheduled a few weeks later, involves the fitting of the restoration by HDW of Carmel to ensure both aesthetic and functional correctness. Once all aspects are verified and approved, the restoration will be securely cemented onto your prepared tooth.
